About our publication

No-advice notice

We may earn a referral fee if you sign up through our links. It does not change our test results.

This site compares software. It does not give tax, legal or accounting advice.

What that means

Accounting Tested reports how accounting software behaved in our tests. We do not tell you how to handle your taxes, which accounting method you must use, how to record a transaction, or what the law requires of your business.

Our tests are not your books

Our test uses a made-up business: a one-person web design business in the United States. Your business may differ in ways that matter, such as how you are taxed, where you operate, whether you have employees, or whether you collect sales tax. A result that worked for our made-up month may not suit your situation.

Reports are not filings

When we show a profit and loss report, we are showing how a tool handled test data. It is not a tax return and not a financial statement for any real business.

Ask a professional

For tax, legal or accounting questions about your own business, ask a qualified professional such as a licensed accountant, a tax preparer or an attorney.

Accuracy

We write down what we saw on the date we tested, and prices on the date we read them. Software and prices change. If you find something out of date, write to contact@accountingtested.com.
